The Patchwork Pony August 11, 2017 – Posted in: Short Stories

Created with love,
and given with love,
the patchwork pony
adventured with the brave,
soothed the unhappy, and
comforted the scared.

Now with anger thrown
into the corner, he lies
with his legs tangled
and dreams…..

He is a carousel pony
joyfully ridden. He is
a racehorse, rounding the last
bend to cheers and excitement.

He is a polo pony
giving his rider the best game
of his life.

He is Jimmy’s pony,
forgotten
in the corner, limp and twisted.
He sighs.

Shadows fall and Jimmy
creeps into the room to pick up
the patchwork pony.

“I’m sorry” he whispers,
“So sorry.”

He takes the patchwork pony
to bed. Proud and true
the patchwork pony
snuggles close to Jimmy
and they sleep.
